THE MEANING OF YOUR BIRTH DATE
Human life is composed of two processes, giving out and taking in. Expressing the vibration or rate of energy contained in the character at birth and including the vibration or rate of energy contained in environment, experiences and associations. These processes perpetuate our psychical or cosmic existence in the same way as the inhalation and exhalation of the breath continues our physical life by revitalizing our cell consciousness.
Just as a name is a full and complete record of all the vibrations and elements of character, a record of lessons learned in past lives, and an infallible indication to the characteristics, impulses, appearance and abilities of the present individuality, so the birth date represents The character of the environment, the associations and experiences by which our character is extended into a greater state of perfection, and is a definite indication of what we are living for and the underlying causes. The actual experiences and personalities presented by life as a whole, and also peculiar to certain periods, are simply the outward and visible manifestations or the effects of these causes. Thus Numerology deals with the two important phases of character analysis, viz.: Individual character and environment.
Individual development is begun with the first breath taken in life, and naturally as an individual reaches and passes maturity he registers and reproduces certain elements of the birth date numbers in his individual contact with conditions and his general personality. The "Path of Life", as the numbers of the birth date are termed, indicate then the immediate destiny of every individual, what has to be learned as the next step in development, necessary to the construction of a consciousness of human life. As the true value of this step is understood we will evolve constructively and harmoniously adjusting to the opportunities and associations around us.
A great deal of unhappiness met by the average individual is really due to their ignorance of any definite plan of thought or action which they should follow and other people should not. Sometimes other people are blamed for our troubles when the real cause is that we are trying to follow someone else's path and not our own, or are seeking experiences which may be good for the other fellow but bad for us.
Numerology proves by its calculation and explanation of the numbers in the birth date that Life is an individual problem, that what "is sauce for the goose" is not always "sauce for the gander." There can be very few happy and permanently successful people in any social order where there is too much generalization in philosophies and too much standardization of personal thought and action.
People are more than male and female, old and young, rich and poor, educated and illiterate. They are individuals, proceeding from the cradle to the grave in social functions and experiences that only seem to make their paths appear the same; as a matter of fact we all are born singly, make our decisions singly, suffer singly, and at the end no one else can die for us.
Character is the only possession we bring into life or take out of it, and if we study the numerals of our birth date we shall find the proper keys to the building and rounding out of our character which of itself is the best assurance of success.
It is well to gain a clear picture of the relative values of the four angles of compiling a measurement of an individual name for character anaylization, and dealing with the numbers in a birth date for interpreting experience, association and opportunity.
The value of Ideality can be termed "WHAT I WANT TO DO". The value of the Impression, "WHAT I LOOK LIKE"; the value of the Expression, "WHAT I CAN DO AND HOW"; the value of the PATH OF LIFE NUMBERS, "WHAT I HAVE GOT TO DO".
The Path of Life indicating the direction of a person's life, the association, opportunity and experience by which human character and performance is developed, it is an easier road of life for he who has the Ideality Number or the Expression Number, the same as the number of the Path of Life.
In such a case, the individual either desires the expression association, opportunity which his life provides, or with the Ideality number different from the Path of Life but with the Expression Number the same, he finds people, places and things in life that recognize and develop his potentials for successfully doing what is required of him.
In cases where the Ideality or Expression Number are not in accord with the Path of Life, or Life Cycle number, there will be a greater conflict in the individual character between desire and ability, "what I want to do" and "What I can do and how". This conflict related also to a different number for the Path of Life, will make it necessary for the individual to spend a greater number of years, to pass through more experience, before an adjustment, or a compromise is able to be made between the desire urge and the instinctive manner and method of self expression; between one or both of these angles of temperament and the opportunities which experience brings. In other words, whatever the Number of the Path of Life is, it is easier to progress in life if either the Ideality or Expression number is identical, than if they are opposite, viz. odd against even and vice versa.
To find the "Path of Life" number, write down the date of your birth. Be sure that the month is written first, the day second and the year last, as each of the numbers of the month, day and year are in themselves indicators to experiences, associations, opportunities for the early life, the middle life and the later years, respectively.
Under the month place the number that it takes in the Calendar. January and October are 1, February and November are 2, March and December are 3, April is 4, May is 5 and so on through the year.
Add to this number the number of the day of birth. If you were born after the tenth, the double number must be added to find the numeral of the day. Now take the numerals in the year of your birth and find the sum of these. Add this sum to the sum of the numbers of the month and day already found and the final total of a single number will be the "Path of Life."

LOVE—FRIENDSHIP—BUSINESS
It is this natural tendency to mate with our opposites in "Idealities" that makes the experience of marriage so often a disillusioning one. Illusions, dreams and romance which often precede marriage are born in the individual ideal which is formulated from the deepest, most personal qualities of the ego, whereas the actual experience of marriage demands the surrender of the personal ideal of both parties for the purpose of building a co-operative ideal and expression which actually is not completely of the nature of one party or the other, but the blending of both. This blending process is so much simpler when the original individual qualities in each character are of a similar vibration than when they are decidedly opposite.
There is great development resulting often from the close association of opposing "Idealities," for if such an experience can be viewed from the more impersonal angle of character building, each party can acquire an understanding and a respect for a principle which before the association and without it would be impossible.
The experience, which is always more important than harmonious, disciplines and balances each character to the point where the two sides in every question of life can be better appreciated. Most humans however are not looking for self-development and discipline when they contemplate getting married, and the simple rules of Numerology point to how these more difficult things may be avoided, if such is the wish, and, if they have not been avoided, how to understand and what to do about it.
The next phase of analyzing human associations is the comparison of the numbers appearing as the final "Expression."
Those people who have the same number of "Expression" as that of our own complete name make very good companions for social enjoyment. In the office, the workshop, the studio or the home, we can do many tasks together because although each person may be working for a different objective, the methods employed, the means taken to do things is identical. Trying to make confidantes of these people or expecting them to like the things we like, is often disappointing unless their "Ideality" is also the same as our own, and then in that case we sometimes grow tired of seeing ourselves so completely reflected in another personality.
If "Expressions" are both even numbers but of different denomination, there is still a good deal of similarity in the methods taken to express although in playing and working together there will be little individual touches which show the different phases of each temperament.
To have the "Expression" opposite, viz, one an even number, 2, 4, 6, 8 and another one of the odd numbers, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 makes it very difficult for the persons to do very much playing or working together. If they wish to develop a mutual idea, it is better for them to agree on the nature and desirability of the objective and then to develop it into two entirely different expressions, which can have two different uses and thus broaden the scope of the idea itself.
So long as "Idealities" are more similar, opposition in "Expression" forms the best basis for successful partnerships in business, for each person acts as a new and a different outlet for the mutual purpose, whereas a too great similarity in the "Expressions" of business partners makes for a sameness, a lack of variety, and a duplication of effort.
PROGRESSIVE COMBINATIONS
LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP
The same Ideality number. The Expression numbers both odd or both even but of different denomination.
MARRIAGE
Ideality numbers the same or both odd or even numbers of different denomination. Expressions, both odd or even numbers of different denomination.
SOCIAL COMPANIONSHIP
Idealities both odd or even numbers of different denomination. The same number in Expression.
BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP
Idealities both odd or even numbers of different denomination.
Expressions one an odd number, the other an even. To find an association of any kind between two people where the "Expression" number of one is the "Path of Life" number of the other means that the one who has the particular number as "Expression" is very necessary to the other and is likely to be the channel through which important and developing experiences and opportunities will be given.
The "Expression" numbers of two people who are married or in close partnership can be added together. The sum of this addition will tell, not the effect that one personality has upon the other, but a dominant influence of the association, by which both are affected as well as defining what the experience has meant in both lives, and what they have expressed together. Use the following table to discover what the nine numerals show used in this phase of interpreting human association.
THE SUM OF TWO "EXPRESSION" NUMBERS.
- Through this association the parties have found them selves. They have become more independent of each other.
- The effect has been discipline for both. Sometimes confusion but always a test of patience, tact and obedience.
- Both parties have found more opportunity for expressing themselves, perhaps apart. The association has been the means of individual advancement.
- The association has been somewhat of a burden. Practical things have been done, but there has been very little fun. Each has learned to serve better and work harder.
- Each party has a regenerative effect upon the other and is a constant source of new ideas, self development, unexpected experience, and some uncertainty. A lack of obligation.
- An experience of mutual adjustment. Somewhat static conditions of heavy responsibility, a growth of steadiness in each individual. Family and community life, and definite obligation.
- Difficulty, isolation, and some misunderstanding. A development of the inner nature as a retreat from lack of outer companionship. Troublesome health or money conditions.
- A development of better judgment and an experience in business. Improvement of health, money and of the mind, in its faculties of organization. Practical management and economic problems.
- Considerable confusion and emotion. Involved with many conflicting interests and experiences. Development of tolerance for and a knowledge of human nature. Indifference to personalities.
EARLY AND MIDDLE LIFE
Second Cycle 6—An experience in becoming tenacious, thorough, deliberate and well balanced in thought and action. This is a successful time for a teacher, counsellor, or one who has to adjust the problems of other people. Steady for marriage of a thoroughly domestic character. Not the time for pleasure and frequent change. In order to develop the more trustworthy reliable qualities in the individual character, there would have to be plenty of responsibility connected with other people.
7—An experience in the development of the deeper spiritual side of character. Therefore circumstances arrange themselves so that attempting to be too practical or to look for happiness in too much association proves unsuccessful. To develop the mind to be above being disturbed is the psychology that will bring success. The "hunch" is worth more than the plan.
8—This is a time for making early efforts financially successful, also for learning the routine and organization of business and material life. Health and money is not far away from the circumstances in this period, but the individual must train himself to think of these things as coming first when making decisions. Avoid the habits and associations that drain physical vitality.
9—This is not an easy period. Emotional experiences must be watched, jealousy eliminated from the nature and a broad philosophy of life adopted so that what people do or do not do is not made too important or the cause of personal unhappiness. Successful for public work of all kinds and for travel.
